Cambridge-Mary Thelma Green, 89, of Cambridge, Town of Jackson, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, December 19, 2011 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. Born on May 25, 1922 in Cambridge, Thelma, as she was know as, was the daughter of the late Earl Gordon and Elizabeth (Purcell) Fleming. She was a 1941 graduate of Salem Washington Academy and was one of the first telephone operators in the Village of Salem. She then worked at the Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge as a ward and admissions clerk retiring in 1977 after 40 years of faithful service. She loved animals, especially riding her horse in her early lifetime. She was a great cook and enjoyed baking, loved antiques and gardening. Most importantly, her grandchildren were very special to her.

Thelma is survived by her son, Allen Green of Cambridge; her two cherished granddaughters, Nikea Catherine Green and Tashina Rose Green, both of Cambridge. She is also survived by her beloved cousins, the Purcell family in Schenectady.

Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from 5-7 pm at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem. Thelma's family encourages everyone to join them following the visitation hours at Albie's Restaurant & Lounge, 2551 State Route 22, Cambridge, for light food and refreshments.

Since Thelma loved animals, her family suggests memorial contributions in her memory to The SPCA of upstate New York, Inc., 588 Queensbury Ave., Queensbury, NY 12804 or online, www.spcauny.org
