Salem, NY-Jean F. Eaton, 82, of Salem, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her family. Born March 23, 1929 in Tottenville, Staten Island, NY the daughter of the late Chris and Lena (Jorgensen) Christensen. Jean was a 1947 graduate of Salem Washington Academy and attended the Austin Beauty School in Albany.
Jean was a stay at home mom and then went to work at the Salem Village Pharmacy in Salem from the late 1970's to early 1990's. She was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Salem where she taught Sunday School, sang in the Choir and was also a Deacon for many years. Jean was also a member of the Francis J. Clark, CMH American Legion Post 812 Ladies Auxiliary and was active with the local Girl Scouts where she served as a leader for many years. Jean enjoyed the annual camping trips with the American Legion, listening to music and dancing. The most important thing in Jean's life was her family, especially her grandchildren.
Jean was married July 3, 1954 to Barney Eaton who passed away July 6, 1994. She was also predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Cindy Eaton; a sister, Thelma Landers and a brother, Norman Christensen.
Jean is survived by her children, Thomas C. Eaton and his wife Jill of Greenwich, Karen J. Bentley and her husband James of Salem and Tonya L. Eaton of Salem. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kristy Brennan and her husband Matt, Brian Eaton, Leah Eaton and her fiance Michael Grey, Chris Eaton and Haley Bentley; a great granddaughter, Madyson Brennan and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, February 17, 2012 from 5-7 pm at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the First United Presbyterian Church of Salem, 13 West Broadway, Salem with Rev. Donna Jackson officiating. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Salem. Following the services, Jean's family invites everyone to join them in the MacKenzie Chapel of the church for light refreshments and a time of fellowship.
