Salem, NY-Charity M. "Mabel" Armstrong, 89 , of Salem, passed away peacefully Friday morning, February 3, 2012 at the Indian River Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Granville. Born November 7, 1922 in Danby, VT, Mabel was the daughter of the late David F. and Rose Ellen (Brown) Andrews. She was educated at the Danby Four Corners School and Granville Schools.
Mabel had worked at Mack Molding in Arlington, VT for 17 years retiring in 1983.
Mabel was a faithful member of the Salem United Methodist Church; a member of the Shushan Grange; the Salem Area Senior Citizens; a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and a member of the Francis J. Clark, CMH American Legion Post #812 Ladies Auxiliary. Mabel enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, dancing and jigsaw puzzles.
She is survived by her children, Michael Armstrong of Shushan, Timothy Armstrong and his wife Debbie of Hebron and Lynda Armstrong of Shushan. Mabel is also survived by her five grandchildren, Robert, Heather, Melissa, Donna and Shane and seven great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Robert "Smokey" Armstrong who passed away September 21, 1986; a daughter, Sunnielya Marie Boice; a granddaughter, Keri Lyn Armstrong; three brothers, George Andrews, Roy Andrews and Brainard Andrews.
Family and friends may call from 1-4 pm on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, February 6, 2012 at the Salem United Methodist Church, 29 West Broadway with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery in Salem.
